In this Craft Course Conversation, we discussed the basics of woodworking saws: their uses, techniques, and shortcomings. This class will focus most on the miter saw, radial arm saw, bandsaw, scroll saw, circular saw, and jigsaw.
Our friend Polly Powell returned to teach our very first Valentine's Day themed Craft Course. Participants got the chance to router, sand, and finish a pair of nested charcuterie boards for them and their cutie! These love themed boards are fully functional and they surely serve as a constant reminder of a fun date night and an enduring relationship.
In This first Craft Course COnversation, we learned about the difference that kiln dried lumber can make on the stability and longevity of a project, the different ways lumber is cut, and important properties of various species. We talked about grain direction, hardness, workability, and how wood takes stain or reacts in UV light. We also talked about plywood. This was the first in a series of woodworking conversations. It is not necessary to have attended previous Craft Courses in order to understand.
In this hands-on workshop, we learned how to create our very own Christmas Tree Shelves from Western Red Cedar to display holiday decorations. Community member Polly Powell lead the class through each step, from cutting the wood to assembling the shelf. We even enjoyed some seasonal sweet treats as we built!
This course was geared towards beginning woodworkers who are interested in develovping their craft. We discussed basic tools, different types of lumber, lumber movement, and how to create quality work on a budget. Through this course, participants gained knowledge to level up your woodworking. And we hope that you will agree with us that woodworking is for everyone!
A workshop on making a flatgrain cutting board. We guided everyone though the process, from selecting the perfect wood to sanding and finishing their cutting boards. Part 1 of the course includes designing the board and glueing it together. And in part 2, scheduled at your convenience and that of our woodworkers, you'll complete the process and have a finished cutting board to take home. Don't miss out on this opportunity to craft something beautiful and functional for your kitchen!
Want to skip the tracksaw? Don't have a jointer? Learn how to create a custom sled for your table saw to cut a straight line on your rough cut material. We'll be making a sled that you can take back to your shop and use on your table saw to take on rough cut lumber to live edge slabs!
We discussed the pros and cons of multiple joinery techniques. This class primarily focused on biscuits, dominoes, and mortise and tenons.
A demonstration from Little Chicago Epoxy on epoxy resin and how to use it
A hands-on workshop where participants learned how to create their very own Juice Groove Jig! This jig can be used to guide your router to make a juice groove in cutting boards, and for help in many other projects!
